Singh Sahib Jathedar Gurdial Singh Ajnoha
(1927-1982)

Singh Sahib Ji Was the Jathedar of Akal Takhat from 1980-1983, Was born born on December 27th, 1927, in village Ajnoha, tehsil Garhshankar (Hoshiarpur District of Punjab), to Sardar Hakam Singh Ji, and Mata Niranjan Kaur Ji, a Rajput Sikh family of Parmar Clan. In 1972, he was appointed the Jathedar of Takhat Shri Keshgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib and remained on this position for 8 years. He performed his duties honesty and with full dedication. On March 2, 1980, he became the Jathedar of Akal Takhat Sahib, Amritsar.

After Jathedar Akali Baba Phoola Singh (1761-1823), he was the only fearless Jathedar who took the following four bold decisions:

1. Sikhs are a separate Nation.

2. Akal Takhat is beyond and above all worldly courts.

3. Nirankaris (Narakdharis) are rejected and Sikhs must not seek any relationship with them.

4. Any Hukamnama issued from Akal Takhat Sahib can’t be reverted.

Psuedo-Nirankari Chief Hardev Sinh’s letter to Jathedar Gurdial Singh Ajnoha of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

In December of 1981, the head of the psuedo-Nirankari cult Hardev Sinh sent a letter to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Gurdial Singh Ajnoha in hopes of reconciling the 'rift' between his cult and the Sikh Panth.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib rejected the Nirankari chief’s plea and offer for reconciliation. The horrible events of Vaisakhi 1978, when thirteen Gursikhs were brutally massacred in the city of Amritsar Sahib, could not be easily forgotten, the Jathedar Gurdial Singh Ajnoha stood his ground.

Twenty five years later, the pseudo-Nirankaris are no longer interested in a settlement with the Sikhs, yet the Badal installed priest Joginder Singh Vedanti has openly offered clemency to them and other groups that have caused so much harm to the Sikh panth. Not surprisingly, this move by Vendanti has been strongly criticized and rejected by all Panthic organizations.

The rejection for reconciliation in 1981 and the open clemency offered in 2006 highlights the continuing degradation and elimination of dignity, principles, and honor that has occurred in the Sikh leadership in the short time span of 25 years.
